    Description:
Yeah, this was inspired by the contest 'Rain Baby'. I based it on the Aztec/Incan ritual of dunking a baby in the middle of a lake. The more the baby cried, the more rain would come that year.

    -------------------------------------------

    Dunk it, drown it,
    Cry, Rain Baby!
    Cry to the sky!

    Dunk it again,
    But not too long.
    Cry, Rain Baby!
    Cry to the sky!

    Again, again,
    Call down the rain!
    We clothed you in
    shimm'ring garments
    for nigh a year,
    Now call the gods!
    The priest holds you,
    Mother nearby,
    Her tears call rain!
    Cry, Rain Baby,
    Cry to the sky!

    Don't inhale it,
    we need your tears.
    Small child tears
    call to the gods,
    to send rain here
    and feed us all.
    You are life, so
    Cry, Rain Baby,
    Cry to the sky!

    Small and limp and
    you disappoint.
    Only four times
    could we drown you.
    No food this year,
    Your kin starves first.
    O, Rain Baby,
    you cry no more.

This is very enlightening and very sad. It always amazes me when I learn something like this about an ancient culture. It makes me wonder what kind of people they really were, to dunk babies for rain? Although, I'm sure we're just as screwed up in ways as they were. Cool poem though, not a topic addressed very often.

I quite like this poem - as I also see it as a way to have a look at an old culture, I in contrary to Guatam, finds that the lines "Mother nearby,/Her tears call rain!/Cry, Rain Baby,/Cry to the sky!" is a bit off. I should properly be something like a mother smiling, proud of the tears from her baby.!

Well except this I found it very good.

this is eye opening, i had no idea about this ritual and now i detest it. how can causing an innocent baby pain cause rain,
    i like this:
    Mother nearby,
    Her tears call rain!
    Cry, Rain Baby,
    Cry to the sky!
espically the part about her crying too because it must have given her so much pain
    much thanks

Wow, this was very... like repulsive and made be like "holy crap, this is [censored]ed up" I liked the wording a lot here, it gives your poem almost a satire kinda feeling that really works. What i really love the

    "Cry, Rain Baby!
    Cry to the sky!"

at the end of each stanza, it flowed a lot better and made the poem feel almost song-like, i was almost singing it in my head. I really liked it, and opened up my eyes, nice write.
