This poem was beautiful; I have no criticisms for it at all. I'm in the military as well, and have been to Iraq, so I know the feeling. Tears sat heavily in my eyes as I read it. If only everyone could see their wives this way. I hope you return home safely.
I can only imagine what she is going through. I am scared when the one I love is out late on the streets....can't imagine my man being overseas at war. She is a strong woman!
When you are finally able to return to her....the power of the love between you will only multiply. Visits home are not even enough to fill the void of insecurity. But when you truly return home for good.....that security will again be regained and the bond between the two of you will be as solid as ever.
This write was written with a very enchanted feel. You gave wonderful description of both your situation, and your longing for your other half.
I think this was one of your more powerful writes. Again, I would suggest breaking your lines into stanzas and or write it as a prose. This was very deep and dark when you speak of the scenes around you in war. But you counter that with all the hope and desire you have to be with your wife again. This was well written. Good work!
I agree with WindEmpress - only you and other soldiers have any real idea of what war is like. It is not our place to say we know how you feel, because unless you've actualy been there, no one does. I think this was so sweet, and so heartbreaking. Were I your wife I believe I would have cried for days. I can imagine all the feelings in this, and feel them so strong, as if they are my own. Not only from your point of view, but from your wife's as she reads it. I think that is what makes this so wonderful. My heart broke for both of you in this piece. Excellent write, one of my favorites ever.
Unlike WindEmpress I do not support this war at all. I think it is a wrong and illegal war and I marched against it this weekend. However, I feel sympathy for all who are caught up in the conflict and think that your poems to your wife show a great tenderness. I hope that the time for you to 'cast away the dogs of war' comes soon. nessie
