Before I begin, let me explain something about humans. We are lazy.
Through the passage of time one of the main priorites of humans is to make our lives easier, through the invention of machines or the creation of systems were people are paid to do what you should be doing. It is human nature to find the easiest way out of a jam. However, another remarkable aspect of humans is the concept of teamwork, and the neccesity of a companion, or companions, to accomplish a certain task. Through these two human aspects have we created the greatest achievements in history. The Pyramids of Eygpt, the Great Wall of China, the space shuttle and the computer, all of these were created through a team effort and through systems.
But humans did always have this, the ability to adapt. I, at this juncture, am not sure where, how or why humans have this engraved in their minds, but adaptation is the key to our survival and in truth the survival of all things. Without adaptation we would not exist, and we would have died long ago.
However, without us realizing it we are slowly losing our ability to truely adapt to change. Look at yourself for a moment. You are fairly fit, decent education, grew up in a nice suburban home. An ordinary human being, nothing outstanding about you, but your ready to take on the world. Well, the world we know is full of shortcuts, methods to make our lives that much easier.
Now imagine you lived 100 years ago. The car was a new thing and almost impossible to get. The most common method of communication were hand-written letters, which are delierved in days rather than seconds. Instead of TV you had plays and games to entertain you, and not much else. Life was about 500% simpler. And that was only a century ago. Now put yourself 500 years in the past. How about a millenia. Think you could survive then? Think you could make it by without iPods and cell phones?
Well, I'm not saying humans are incapable of survival now. It's simply a rare quaility. But its there, hidden deep down, inside our minds and hearts, the inscint to survive and adapt. That's what our main character in this tale had to deal with. He was tested by the gods, at stake his life, and possibly the life of others, although he doesn't know this. His only goal, his one objective is to survive. But with humans so advanced and wise through the years, how long can he truly survive, and will the cost be more than he can afford?
