TO DAFFADILS Analysis

Author: Poetry of Robert Herrick Type: Poetry Views: 922

Fair Daffadils, we weep to see
You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
Has not attain'd his noon.
Stay, stay,
Until the hasting day
Has run
But to the even-song;
And, having pray'd together, we
Will go with you along.

We have short time to stay, as you;
We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
As you, or any thing.
We die
As your hours do, and dry
Away,
Like to the summer's rain;
Or as the pearls of morning's dew,
Ne'er to be found again.

The Best Analysis :
first of all,the poem is broken into 2 stanzas,the first addressing the daffadills and the second moving on to people and life in general.
The poem moves along in such a way that the daffadills addressed then they eventually die,and like wise we,as people,follow the same pattern.
We find a note a melancholy sadness in his poem which arises out of the realization that beauty is not going to stay forever.
In his poem,the poet begins by saying that we grieve to see the beautiful daffadills being wasted a way very quickly.
The duration of their gloom is so short that it seems even the rising sun still hasn't reached the noontime.
Thus,in the very beginning the poet has struck a note of mourning at the fast dying of daffadills.
The poet then addresses the daffadills and asks them to stay until the clay ends with the evening prayer.
After praying together,he says that they will also accompany the daffadills.
This is so because like flowers men too have a very transient life and even the youth is also very short-lived.
So their life is as short as the rain of the summer season which comes for a very short time and the dew-drops in the morning which vanish away and never return again.
