It's only fainter-by degrees-
And then-it's out of sight-A darker Ribbon-for a Day-
A Crape upon the Hat-
And then the pretty sunshine comes-
And helps us to forget-The absent-mystic-creature-
That but for love of us-
Had gone to sleep-that soundest time-
Without the weariness-

.: :.

Three stanzas, 12 lines, no rhyme scheme, beautiful poetic rhythm.
The first stanza is a description of the process of dying. The second describes what happens to the survivors. The last explores what motivates the soul during life, and the fate of the soul in death.
This unnamed poem distills the wisdom of a lifetime in 12 amazing lines. I'll not write a 1,000 word essay about this poem, but it is worthy of that much and more.
