Up -Hill Analysis

Author: Poetry of Christina Georgina Rossetti Type: Poetry Views: 1795

Does the road wind up-hill all the way?
Yes, to the very end.
Will the day's journey take the whole long day?
From morn to night, my friend.

But is there for the night a resting-place?
A roof for when the slow dark hours begin.
May not the darkness hide it from my face?
You cannot miss that inn.

Shall I meet other wayfarers at night?
Those who have gone before.
Then must I knock, or call when just in sight?
They will not keep you standing at that door.

Shall I find comfort, travel-sore and weak?
Of labour you shall find the sum.
Will there be beds for me and all who seek?
Yea, beds for all who come.

.: Up-hill :.

I think this poem is about a traveler who is fearing the journey to death. in the first stanza, the traveler seems worried about how hard the journey will be. in the second, if there's a resting place at the end. in the third, if people will be there for fellowship, and in the fourth the end of the road. the poem starts out in nervous apprehension, but ends in peaceful assurance.

.: poem :.

the poem is an allegory it consists a seris of questions by a weary traveller and the answers seem to be given by an unknown guide who has already travelled the path.its a lovely and moving meditation on death(the bed where one "rests in peace") and its relation to life (the road travelled on).

.: Analysis :.

The poem is in a A-B A-B structure.
Its basically a bout Rosetti asking a "person", probably an angel about LIFE.

The poem focuses on life and wad happens after it ends.
Night = Death
Light = Birth.

.: POEM :.

i think that this poem is about a person that is taking a giant poop, she is taking it in another persons hotel.! ...room...It seems that, in the poem, Rossetti expresses near certainty that death is a relief of life; however, I think that the main point of the poem is that life is a journey, and will always be one. The journey never stops, never ends. Death is imminent, but it should not be viewed with fear -- it is simply a rest after the journey of life
