This poem delineates the transient nature of life.Frost clarifies the saturnine genesis of old age and demise by addressing the barks of an aged dog.

Just as the dog is growing old, so is the speaker. He too is aging. He and the dog have shared a span of time (the dog's lifetime) together, and the speaker is aware of the dog's mortality -- and thus, of his own. Someday soon, all he will have left of his dog will be his memories, and some time after that, all that will remain of him will be the recollections others have of him (or not). But because Frost immortalized the moment (and the man and the dog) forever in this poem, they continue to live on. The span of a dog's life is short, man's is (one hopes) a bit longer, and a good poem's longer still.

I think this poem is very concise and from my point of view i think Robert Frost really was trying to concisely illustrate how short life is and how before your eyes you grow and can just remember the days where all your membranes were as good as if they had never been used.

In this poem, we can see that minimal words are being put into the poem. Two things FRost might be trying to deliver. First of all, he is trying to say how life is so short. This poem ilustrates an old dog barking backwards. How usually do one see a dog barking backwards. This is a dog too old and doesn't have the energy to lift its leg. Too lazy, to turn it's head around. By implying that the dog is old and then with a sudden swith of a flashback with a memory of how the dog was still a pup back then. Just like how the poem is short, FRost is trying to say how life is always too short. (brief analysis)
2ndly, we can also see Poe playing with the words. In the first line as you read out loud, compared to the second line, you can eventually hear a minor difference. As you read the 1st line, its not as swift as you read the second line. FRost added the word 'backward' into the first line just to change the rhythematic flow of the poem.FRostchooses words carfully so when we read the 2nd line, it flows swiftly and lightly, like a excited little pup. Coincidently, the first line describes about the old dog is slower and heavy.
