Nothing is so beautiful as spring—

  When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;

  Thrush's eggs look little low heavens, and thrush

Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring

The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;

  The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush

  The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush

With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling.

What is all this juice and all this joy?

  A strain of the earth's sweet being in the beginning

In Eden garden.—Have, get, before it cloy,

  Before it cloud, Christ, lord, and sour with sinning,

Innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy,

  Most, O maid's child, thy choice and worthy the winning.

In the octet, of the poem 'Spring', Hopkins explains the beauty of spring. All the beauty of spring is praise to God as the creator. All this wonderful things of the world that God created at the beginning of the world. In the sestet Hopkins asks God to restore the innoncence of youth, before all sin ruins this beautiful world he created.

.: Spring :.

This poem shows how Hopkins was heavily influenced by his religious background. the poem is wriiten as a plea to God, Hopkins speaks of the beauty of nature and makes close references to the bible, "Eden Garden". in the poem he associates the beauty of Spring with the puritty of the Virgin Mary who is adaored by Catholics for her purity and lack of sin. this poem is an excellent example of the religious themes which Hopkins explored in many of his poems.
