Old Ed Analysis

Our cowman, old Ed, hadn't much in his head,

And lots of folks though him a witling;

But he wasn't a fool, for he always kept cool,

And his sole recreation was whittling.

When I'd spill him my woes (ifantile, I suppose),

He'd harken and whittle and whittle;

then when I had done, turn his quid and say: "Son,

Ye're a-drownin' yerself in yer spittle."

He's gone to his grave, but the counsel he gave

I've proved in predicaments trying;

When I got in a stew, feeling ever so blue,

My failures and faults magnifying,

I'd think of old Ed as he sniffed and he said:

"Shaw! them things don't mater a tittle.

Ye darned little cuss, why make such a full?

Ye're a-drownin' yerself in yer spittle."

When you're tangled with care till you're up in the air,

And worry and fear have you quaking,

When each tiny trouble seems bigger than double,

Till mountains of mole-hills you're making:

Go easy, my friend, things click in the end,

But maybe 'twill help you a little,

If you take Ed's advise (though it may not sound nice):

Ye're a-drownin' yerself in yer spittle."

An interesting esrceixe, Gerry writing with your daughter. I suspect it brought the two of you closer together; but also created a few tough moments! As to style. Of course, we all have our own style of writing, but I also think we can (and do) modify that style depending on what we're writing. My style in my contemporary mysteries is very different from that in my historicals. Kathy Lynn/Kaitlyn has several different voices for her different genres. And Kate's Burgess books are written differently than her true crime, or her earlier series. (If I'm misrepresenting anyone speak up!) So I think a writer does have a style but a book/series also has a voice. It's the combination that is recognizable. Interesting topic! Lea

Whadya do? Get your own server ruinnng? Switch hosts? Love the pretty reds. I'm sure it will feel like home in no time. My site is going to get an overhaul soon, and it will all feel brand new, also. I just hope blogger will quit being so buggy like it has been lately. I'd hate to finish paying my sweet Christian site designer for my blogiversary present and then it get deleted by blogger in a fluke. I've heard of people loosing their entire blogs lately yikes! That's my next project backing up posts. Pray for ME! It will be a lot of work to copy the code for that many posts and email them to myself also. Maybe I'll put them all in a book for my kids one day if my computer doesn't crash. Nice to see you in my stat-counter. I'll be sure to visit more . and make sure you change your links in the blogrolls if you haven't already!
